In Mangalore last weekend, a dozen or more goons stormed into a pub and attacked young women for being 'improperly dressed' and 'behaving immodestly.' The incident made headlines; much outrage was expressed -- and we seem to have moved on to other preoccupations, other headlines. What happened was unconscionable: No individual or group has the right to set itself up as arbiter of public behaviour.
Even less does it have the right to take the law into its own hands, to enforce its unilateral diktat through acts of deliberate violence. The fault, though, is not theirs but ours: Too often, for far too long, we have confined our disgust, our anger at such actions to the confines of our living rooms. 'Incidents' happen, we 'express our outrage' within the safe confines of our home. Then, with a collective shrug of apathy, we move on -- and by moving on, we grant such groups the tacit permission to continue on their anarchist path. The danger in collective apathy is this: We could be next.
Tomorrow, this group could decide that you do not have the right to play the kind of music they disapprove of; to educate your children in schools not of their liking; to allow your wife, your daughter, to work at jobs of their choosing. These groups get away with their acts because they purport to speak for the 'majority' -- and they do this because we, the majority, are silent spectators. That needs to change. Now.
We need to show that we, the silent majority in this country, do not support such acts -- that we, in fact, strongly oppose such groups; that we refuse to cede to such self-appointed moral guardians the right to speak for us, to dictate our actions, to define 'acceptable behaviour.' It is time for the 'silent majority' to find its voice, to speak out, to put an end to criminal behaviour before we get swamped in this rising tide of 'moral' posturing. Speak out, through the form below.
Express your views, give voice to your outrage, demand that elected governments enforce the laws of the land and crack down, hard, on those who would take that law into their own hands. We will forward your thoughts to Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, and follow up with his office to make sure your thoughts are heard, and action is taken.

Hahaha .. All we wanted is a blog on this
ReplyDeleteI think we men lack a will to give the right respect to women. Those who want to to be moral police let them first police their families & the politicians who are corupt & cheat our county of millions. They will do a real service to our mother land if they can stop this. Otherwise they are seeking popularity & fame & they are doing diservice to our nation
ReplyDeleteShall i say the people of Mangalore \ Karnataka deserved this for voting a communal government knowingly..............
ReplyDeleteBrace yourself people this is just the begining, there will be many more such attacks and the worse is yet to come (Something like GODHRA) prepare to cry over your loved ones.
If you are not happy about the respect shown by Sri Ram Sena to girls/women in Mangalore, then send in your resentment by email to
ReplyDeleteramsena@shriramsena.com
The incident occurred in mangalore is really bad but one good thing is parents of all youth really appreciate this in there sol and all youth will remember about there misbehavior! That's for sure.
ReplyDeleteFor this I thanks Ram Sena! but the way they treated girls its not fare to eyes. Are they deserve that or not we cant say or you cant say may be gods wish... Any way its a good lesson to all who live in this society and also a good thing to all to think about there culture. One for sure; many may ask why cant they go for legal things to save our culture and all. I need to laugh first he he... who is going to do that? How much time you need to get justice? Who will care about this issue? you or me. He he.... so be practical for some thing. It will help our society. But one think.. Never attack girls like that its really bad, Respect Girls.
jithesh, don't laugh so much. you sound like a coward. Just because you don't get justice, you attack the girls who are helpless who cannot retaliate?. men who attack women are cowards and really a disgrace to a man community. They are hijdasen and not ramsena.
ReplyDeleteThis is matter of freedom of individual's choice of what to wear, drink. isn't that unfair that man can have freedom and but not women?. If you are worried about your sister/mothers getting attracted to the pubs, then control your family before controling outsiders by hitting.
in that time shriramasene take right discisssion because the govt and police department has copleetely faile. in india more girls are doing these business there after they will lost their life and they going uncultured tribute
ReplyDeleteso these kind of nonsence culture should be stopped
in this matter it showed our govt is compleetely failured
who are this bloody ram sena.... what r they trying to prove? abt hinduism or abt indian culture? does indian culture say tht u can beat women in the public? in the name of religion how many more things r this ramsena gonne do? whts wrong if a gal goes to a pub? when a guy can go, why cant gal... this is a free country we can do what we like as far as it does not harm anyone. we live for ourself not for others.we dont need ramasenas opinion since they r not the one we care about.i always respected hindu religion but this incident as left me blank.. i hate ram sena.... if they r so much concerned abt public display of gals in pub then why dint they try shutting down the pub. all who support ram sena are big time hijda s. this ramasena should hit people who r corrupt and some of the politician.. can they do it ? if they want to help the country let them help the poors and needy once...this is just shit....
ReplyDeleteAs a parent of a child,I want to ask Renuka Chowdhary if she ever wish to go to Pub and get addicted to drugs and dance like the so called "Item No."??? OR Do u ever wish your children go to pub and do whatever nasty they want??? or do you mean to say that all parents in this country should act like you as an irresponsible and idiotic person?? what do you mean by Pub Bharo??? We want to see you in pub ,consume alcohol and dancing till you are in power. We do not want our children go disarray, nasty and unproductive.Mind it. in my View as a citizen of this country,I deject you as a Minister...You are simply not eligible to be in that position. Where is your voice when wemen are repeatedly being raped in streets of Delhi??? where is your voice when Son of a Goa Minister raped a minor girl??? Be sure, you will be thrown out in the coming election, just because of your dirty politics.
ReplyDeleteAt the same time, whatever sena it is, I have the advice for them , don't just do moral policing on pub going girls. But fight against all discrimination in our society, fight against the tobocco barrons, smoking, gutkhas, drugs abusement...there are many such issues which our political spectrum deliberately ignores and that kills many in our country.Perform your duty peacefully, violence is not our culture. That will give you value addition and respect
